The annual Honors Night held by the Golden Eagle Theatre Company will hit the stage running on September 30 at 7:00 p.m. This event will showcase many different styles of performances and kick off the 2025-2026 theatre season.
“I’m excited to see a lot of the younger groups of people, and see them do their first actual show or acting scene,” sophomore theatre student Alexis Thomas said.
Honors Night allows all theatre students in junior varsity and varsity to show off their skills. Some of the performance categories include solo and group musical, solo, duet, group acting, tech design, and short film.
“I am working on my lines and working on blocking,” Thomas said. “I’m performing a Shakespeare scene, so I have to make sure I’m saying everything correct, and making sure the accent is right, and making sure the Shakespeare scene is performed correctly, because Shakespeare is very tedious about that.”
Students are tasked with preparing their acts at the end of August, meaning they have a lot of time to perfect their performance.
“I think it’s very important because you’re able to see if you perform well in front of other people, because it’s one thing by yourself, or just with your group of people, but it’s another when you have to perform it in front of people you don’t know, because that’s exactly what’s going to happen if you do make it on to Thespians,” Thomas said.
Texas Thespians, the annual competition in Grapevine, Texas, will transpire later this year.
Selected performers get to attend and compete with other thespians around the state.
“The Golden Eagle Theatre Company was awarded for the second year in a row as an official Gold Honor Troupe by Texas Thespians,” Theatre director Crystal Rose said. “We created Honors Night to showcase and highlight all the great things our theatre students are doing this season and what they will be taking to competition this year.”
The Golden Eagle Theatre Company has put on many professional performances in the past years. Honors Night is filled with fun performances and is enjoyable for everyone. Admission is free.
