The Cypress Falls indoor drumline and color guard team placed at the Texas Color Guard Circuit Area East competition on March 28 at Cypress Ranch High School, allowing them to advance to State on April 11 and April 18. They earned their awards through performing their shows A Sanctuary for a Secret, and What Lies Beneath.
“This was our fifth contest of the season and determined which ensembles qualified for the state contest,” Band Director Brandon Beck said. “We finished in third place.”
For Falcon Glazier, actor for the indoor drumline show What Lies Beneath…, this season has been one of her personal bests.
“Placing third at the competition made me feel amazing,” Glazier said. “We’ve been having a really good season. We haven’t gotten below third place this season, and it makes me very happy.”
Amira Williams, color guard performer in the show A Sanctuary for a Secret, was surprised that it went well for the team, due to her lack of faith in the performance initially.
“Winning made me feel shocked, because I thought we didn’t do well during the runthrough,” Williams said . “After getting first, I thought, ‘maybe I’m being too critical of myself, because we got first.’”
Beck’s efforts have gotten him and the organization far, allowing him to reflect on his past experiences as a band member with a sense of pride and fulfillment.
“As a director, it’s very rewarding watching my students perform in an activity I participated in when I was their age,” Beck said. “The students in our ensemble work very hard to achieve their goals and when we’re competitively successful, it’s definitely rewarding to see that hard work pay off.”
