On Tuesday March 14, the Cypress Falls Indoor Drumline and Winter Guard had their last performance of the 2026 season in the Cypress Falls gym.
“Last Blast is our end-of-season performance held at Cy-Falls, where we invite the community to celebrate with us,” Winter Guard Director Lauren Hall said. “It’s our chance to finish the season on our own terms and showcase everything our Indoor Percussion and Winter Guard programs have worked so hard to achieve.”
The Indoor Drumline performed What Lies Beneath… and the Winter Guard performed A Sanctuary for a Dream. Both groups have performed and placed at their respective State competitions.
“It was amazing seeing the show that, in the beginning, seemed kind of hard to understand, eventually become this very emotionally raw story of grief that touched a lot of people and judges,” Winter Guard performer Tristan Smith (12) said.
These shows evolved over many long rehearsals and teamwork. Many students gained personal achievements.
“My biggest accomplishment from the show was our group placing first at almost every competition we performed at,” Indoor Drumline performer Ayanna Garner (12) said. “It was honestly shocking to see how detailed the show became after every rehearsal.”
As a senior, this was Smith’s first time performing in Winter Guard. Seeing a show of such high caliber has been rewarding, but his biggest achievement is more grounded.
“My personal biggest achievement I think was simply joining Winter Guard,” Smith said. “With it being my first and last year, having to learn so many new things was really hard, but well worth it in the end.”
Getting to witness the growth of her students as performers, Hall is proud to see the show come together.
“It’s incredibly rewarding,” Hall said. “Watching my students grow, not only as performers, but as people through color guard, is what makes this experience so special. Seeing their confidence and dedication develop over time is something I will always value.”
